Why Sleep is your Secret Weapon.
Did you know losing just 2 hours of sleep can affect your productivity to the same extent as losing a full day’s sleep? Keep reading to learn how to capitalize on those Zzzzzs and sleep your way to success.
Sleep. Recover. Repeat.
When you exercise, you’re literally tearing your body down and exhausting it of its energy. When you sleep, your body enters recovery mode. It is essential for replenishing, repairing, and preventing future injury.
Reaction time, focus, and motor skills are all impacted by lack of sleep. Athletes who don’t get the American National Sleep Foundation’s recommended 7-9 hours per night, nearly double their chances of getting injured, and staying injured.
Muscles, bones, tendons, and ligaments need to hit that 7-9 hour mark in order to regenerate and allow your body to bounce back, rather than falling deeper into the injury.
Sleep = Strength
Not only is sleep important for progressing and preventing injury, but also for building muscle. There is actually a direct positive correlation between sleep and muscle growth. Yes, we’re recommending you spend more time simply dreaming about your muscles!
Without adequate sleep, muscle mass actually decreases. As you sleep, your muscles store energy in the form of glycogen. After decreased levels of sleep, low glycogen levels can result in the lack of energy and in the reduction of muscle mass.
